Williams Partners L.P. announced Tuesday that the first phase of its Hillabee expansion project entered service, adding 818,410 dekatherms per day (Dth/d) to the capacity of the Transco pipeline system.
The expansion will supply natural gas to Florida power generators through the new Sabal Trail pipeline.
The Hillabee expansion project will be built in three phases and increase the capacity of the Transco system by approximately 1,131,730 Dth/d by 2021. The second phase is scheduled to begin operation by the second quarter of 2020, and the third phase is expected to be in service by the second quarter of 2021.
“The Hillabee project is an important Transco expansion providing clean-burning natural gas to meet the needs of Florida’s rapidly growing power generation market,” Frank Ferazzi, senior vice president of Williams Partners’ Atlantic-Gulf operating area, said.
The first phase of the project also comprised the construction of a new compressor facility in Choctaw County, Alabama. It also involved approximately 20 miles of pipeline looping modifications to existing compressor facilities.
The second phase, which will include approximately 11 miles of looping and modifications to existing compressor facilities, is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2019.
