NERC’s Cummings named to scientific advisory board
Robert W. Cummings, senior director of Engineering and Reliability Initiatives at the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), was named this week to the Scientific Advisory Board of the
Center for Ultra-Wide-Area Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks (CURENT).
CURENT, a National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center, is a collaboration between
academia, industry and national laboratories that’s led by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Science Foundation support the center.
The Scientific Advisory Board is made up of outside experts who advise the Engineering Research Center leadership team as well as provide feedback on ideas and information presented by CURENT senior staff.
Cummings has worked at NERC since 1996. He was a principal investigator of the 2003 Northeast Blackout as well as the Arizona-Southern California Outage of September 8, 2011. He is a senior member of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
