New tool from American Wind Energy Association shows every wind farm, factory in US

The American Wind Energy Association recently unveiled a new interactive map tool that details the
location of every wind farm and factory in the United States.

“Wind power has become a vital part of the U.S. economy, drawing billions of dollars in capital investment
to rural communities each year and supporting over 100,000 U.S. jobs across all 50 states,” AWEA Deputy Director of Industry Data and Analysis John Hensley said. “I’m pleased this new map tool helps Americans visualize how world-class U.S. wind resources are being put to work in all parts of the county.”

The map also shows the locations of the more than 500 U.S. manufacturing facilities related to the wind industry.

The tool also includes a time-lapse feature that shows the growth of wind power development across the country from the first modern wind projects in California in 1981 to the completion of the first offshore wind project in 2016.

In addition to the interactive map, AWEA also offers a more comprehensive wind power database to its members that include information on projects that are online, under construction as well as advanced development wind projects and active wind-related manufacturing facilities. This tool provides over 50 data points at both the project and turbine level and also filtered search capabilities, summary maps, and political boundaries.
