Connecticut’s Betkoski takes over as NARUC president

John Betkoski III of Connecticut recently began serving as the new National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners
(NARUC) president, following former president Robert F. Powelson’s move to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Betkoski formerly served as NARUC’s first vice president and is vice chair of the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority.

“I look forward to continuing the vision for this year established by Past President Powelson,” Betkoski said. “There is still much to be said about issues of innovation, infrastructure and investment. NARUC’s leadership remains focused on advocating for state regulators.”

Betkoski will serve a complete term after being formally installed as president in November at NARUC’s Annual Meeting and Educational Conference in Baltimore. At the event, he will announce his vision and theme for the association.

Wisconsin Public Service Commission Chair Ellen Nowak will move up from her current position as second vice president and will be formally installed as first vice president at November’s event. The second vice president position will remain vacant until a successor is installed at the meeting.

“It has been my very sincere honor to serve as a state regulator and help lead NARUC,” Powelson said. “I thank my colleagues—our members—for their collegiality, support and professionalism. State commissioners and their staffs have one of the most challenging jobs in our country, with few accolades. I look forward to us all, collectively, continuing to serve the public interest.
