Haque sworn in as Public Utilities Commission of Ohio chairman

Asim Z. Haque was recently sworn in as chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).

Haque was named to the position of chairman by Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich in May, and will take leadership of the agency responsible for regulating public utility services in the state of Ohio.

“I am humbled to be given the opportunity to lead this agency,” Haque said. “It is so important that we get it right. The PUCO regulates the basic infrastructure that sustains our lives and this economy.”

Haque is also currently serving a five-year term as chairman of the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB). The OPSB supports energy policy in the state that enables the installation of energy capacity and transmission infrastructure, as well as reviewing, evaluating and approving the siting of electric generation plants and electric and natural gas transmission lines.

“I will be desperately seeking these solutions for the state,” Haque said. “It is up to me to create the venue where all of you can participate. I want to work cooperatively with all of you.”

Having served as a PUCO commissioner since 2013, before which he worked as a general practice attorney in Columbus, Haque brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his role as chairman.
