NERC, IEEE launch task force to examine renewable resources impact on power systems
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) Power and Energy Society (PES), in conjunction with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) recently launched a task force aimed at examining the impact of large penetration of inverter-based resources like photovoltaic systems and wind generation on the power system.
According to the NERC, the task force will produce a document for industry guidance that seeks to identify and define issues regarding the impact of large inverter-based resources on the power system with a long range scope to develop standards, guides and technical papers to help guide the industry as more wind and solar energy systems are implemented.
Co-Chaired by Kevin W. Jones and Vice Chaired by Gary Kobet, the task force will report directly to the Power and Energy Society’s Technical Council.
Specifically, the committee will be comprised of representatives of utilities companies, manufacturers, industry consultants, and the NERC itself. The initial phase of the member selection process is expected to be completed shortly, according to PES.
