Soltage’s 4.75MW solar farm project completed in Walpole County, Massachusetts
Soltage, LLC recently announced that the 4.75-megawatt (MW) Bird Machine Solar Farm located in Walpole, Massachusetts has been completed and is now in operation.
Built on a former industrial site, the new solar farm is comprised of 14,600 panels that will produce approximately six million kilowatt hours of energy per year, offsetting more than nine million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.
Tenaska will serve as the primary investor and co-owner for the project as part of an investment portfolio made in tandem with Soltage in 2015.
“Turning brownfields into brightfields is an ideal solution for municipalities like Walpole across Massachusetts and across the country,” Soltage CEO Jesse Grossman said. “Walpole has shown real environmental and economic leadership by enabling this project which will help spur local economic development and create strong environmental benefits.”
Set on approximately 25 acres on a 134-acre plot of land owned by Baker Hughes, a subsidiary of GE (BHGE), the company worked in conjunction with Soltage to develop the farm as part of its commitment to developing more sustainable energy. According to BHGE, it is preserving the remaining 109 acres for a natural habitat.
“This is a win-win for Walpole,” Walpole Township Administrator Jim Johnson said. “Soltage has been a great partner on this project throughout.”
