The National Oil and Gas Gateway unveiled Tuesday its first public website, which features information on oil and gas wells in multiple states across the United States.
The Gateway is a collaborative initiative between the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the Groundwater Protection Council (GWPC) and its member states, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Oil and Natural Gas, part of the Office of Fossil Energy.
Ten states are currently submitting data to the site: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Utah, and West Virginia.
The participating states update well-level data information on a monthly basis. Participation is open to all oil- and natural gas-producing states.
Gateway users can view, analyze, and export data on oil and gas wells, including well location, name, unique API number, operator, current status, type, production, injection, and disposition. Gateway aksi provides completion data, depth and drilling orientation, and hydraulic fracturing chemical disclosure reports from FracFocus.
Users can view data in map, datasheet, and dashboard forms. Within the map feature, users can apply filters by drawing areas directly on the map. The datasheet presents data in a spreadsheet format that lets users aggregate, sort and compare wells. The dashboard provides charts that users can customize and download.
