The North Dakota Public Service Commission (PSC) announced Wednesday that North Dakota PSC Commissioner Julie Fedorchak has been appointed Secretary of the Organization of MISO States (OMS).

The appointment also makes Fedorchak a part of the MISO Advisory Committee, which advises the MISO Governing Board.

“North Dakota citizens don’t know or care much about organizations like MISO and OMS, but yet these groups have a significant impact on our lives by ensuring that our electric system operates reliably and at the lowest reasonable cost,” Fedorchak said. “This new position gives North Dakota a stronger voice for influencing the decisions made by both organizations that stand to have a big impact on people.”

The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), an independent, nonprofit organization, is responsible for reliable operation of the regional electric grid owned by member utilities in 15 states.

The OMS represents the interests of state and local utility regulators in the MISO region and consists of 17 members across 15 states and the Canadian province of Manitoba. It aims to facilitate informed and efficient participation in related issues by providing an avenue for members to share information and resources and discuss policy issues.
