The Missouri Public Service Commission approved a non-unanimous agreement on Tuesday regarding energy efficiency for businesses and residential customers.
The approved agreement pertained to certain demand-side (energy efficiency) programs and a demand-side investment mechanism (DSIM) under Kansas City Power and Light (KCP&L) and KCP&L-Greater Missouri Operations (GMO) Company’s second Missouri Energy Efficiency Investment Act (MEEIA) filings.
The agreement states that the three-year energy efficiency plan is expected to provide benefits to all KCP&L and GMO customers, including customers who do not participate in the programs.
Under the MEEIA plan, there will be a number of energy efficiency programs for business and residential customers. Residential programs include income-eligible weatherization, home lighting rebates, home appliance recycling rebates, income-eligible home energy reports, home energy reports, online home energy audits, whole house efficiency, and income-eligible multi-family and residential programmable thermostats.
Under the agreement, KCP&L and GMO will work with other interested parties to address new, unserved or underserved customer markets and identify cost-effective energy and demand savings strategies that could be implemented in 2017 or 2018.
KCP&L serves approximately 272,800 electric customers in Missouri.
