The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) recently wrapped up five days of summer meetings, concluding with the adoption of five new resolutions by the board of directors.

Approximately 1,100 attendees participated in the event, held in Nashville, taking part in sessions that addressed issues important the NARUC members, including electricity, gas, telecommunications, transportation and water issues.

The meetings began on July 23 when the much-anticipated draft of the Manual on Distributed Energy Resources Compensation was highlighted in a town hall session that fielded questions and comments from more than 100 attendees. The draft manual, which is available on NARUC’s website, is open for comments through Sept. 2.

A highlight of the July 25 session was the Q&A with Exelon President and CEO Chris Crane, moderated by NARUC President Travis Kavulla. Topics that generated strong interest at this year’s meetings included subjects related to big data, the issue of ensuring a workforce for utility construction projects, and the relationship between states and markets in procuring generation.

The resolutions passed by the board of directors on the final day addressed rules within the Clean Water Act, the development of FERC annual reporting requirements, and roles on the National Utilities Diversity Council Board.
