The Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) announced the winners of its 2016 Solar Power Player Awards on Tuesday, recognizing electric utilities and energy innovators for driving solar growth, distribution and technology.

“Our 2016 Solar Power Players all have fresh, exciting stories to tell about the potential for innovative projects and programs when utilities and their solar industry partners work together on the solutions needed to bring more solar and other distributed technologies to the grid,” SEPA President and CEO Julia Hamm said. “Our winners provide ample evidence of the changes in institutional culture and operational style taking root across our industry, driving a transformation of our energy system that benefits all stakeholders — consumers, utilities and the solar industry.”

SEPA named winners in five categories this year, including Investor-Owned Utility of the Year, Public Power Utility of the Year, Electric Cooperative of the Year, Innovative Partner of the Year and Solar Champaign. The respective winners were Pepco, the village of Minster, Green Power EMC, Clean Energy Collective, and Dora Nakafuji of the Hawaiian Electric Company.

Winners will be recognized on Sept. 13 as part of the Solar Power International conference in Las Vegas.

SEPA is an educational non-profit that seeks to advance the reach of clean energy technology through research, education and collaboration.
