Alliant Energy Iowa’s energy efficiency plan will provide nearly $180M in customer savings

Over the next five years, customers of Alliant Energy in Iowa will receive approximately $180 million in savings as a direct result of the company’s new energy efficiency plan.

That plan will save both electric and natural gas customers funds each month, while working to reduce their energy usage. For the company, it is also a move to keep in line with Iowa’s newest energy legislation. That law reduces customer fees charged for energy efficiency programs, and with their own new plan, Alliant Energy said they could save customers around 611 million kilowatt hours of electricity and 2.5 million therms of natural gas.

“Alliant Energy’s new energy efficiency plan will help Iowa families and businesses realize approximately $180 million in savings on their energy bills over the next five years while continuing to provide access to energy efficiency programs that reduce energy usage,” Terry Kouba, president of Alliant Energy’s Iowa energy company, said. ”I would like to thank lawmakers for supporting Iowa’s new energy law, which directly helps our customers keep more of their money.”

Following the approval of the plan by the Iowa Utilities Board last week, the new program goes into effect today. It will cover from 2019 through 2023, though the reduction in charges likely won’t be reflected on customers bills until June this year.
